Havamal Verse 78
'Cattle die, kindred die, every man is mortal: but the good name never dies of one who has done well.'

Raven Kindred North (RKN) is one of the oldest traditional Asatru kindreds on the United States. Our members are from all over the New England area and enjoy the camaraderie of our monthly gatherings. RKN has always prided it self on teaching the tenets of Asatru through our actions.
RKN is a kindred which supports the spiritual growth of its members. Each member is focused on developing themselves as an individual in order to better support our community.
RKN has worked to increase the awareness of Asatru by; providing those interested in Asatru with basic information about our tradition of the religion, to provide a way for Asatruar to be able to worship the gods and goddesses within a community setting, and to support our members and others in the practice of Asatru if not in our specific tradition. Through the dedication of its members RKN has been able to provide the services of a gothi or gythia (priest or priestess) for sacred rituals like marriages, funerals, professions in addition to our monthly honoring of the Gods.
Unlike some other forms of paganism, the focus of RKN is the religion of Asatru. While we do have members who practice runic and siedr magic, the main focus is devotional. Our two main forms of ritual are the Blöt (pronounced “bloat”) and the Sumble. Both of which are based on actual historical resources and adapted slightly for our modern use.
RKN’s goal is to create a living religion which reflects and addresses the needs of its adherents. While it is true that we look to the past to tell us who we are now and how we got here, we try to temper the lessons learned with the knowledge that we have and will gain in the future.

Commonly used to denote “peace”, RKN believes that the definition also encompasses “commitment”. This commitment is to each other as kinfolk and to our Gods. Frith is what binds us together.
Our commitment to each other and the teachings of Asatru over the years has brought our kindred luck. While “luck” is commonly used to refer to “good fortune”, in Asatru it also refers to a sort of “spiritual power”. Any well run organization sooner or later begins to take on a life of its own. Once this begins to happen the organization almost begins to sustain itself. Though the individual members may change over time, the uniqueness which is RKN is always there. Luck is what sustains us.
It is by our honor, both personal and as a kindred, that we are known and judged by the rest of the community. Our honor is the result of our past actions and those of all the members (past, present, and future). By taking and giving notice of the struggles of our foregone kin we are better able to draw encouragement for our current struggles. Honor is what guides us.
These virtues are those which are expressed through the teachings of the Poetic Edda and the many sagas which we consider to believe to be divinely inspired works if not literally true, in the hopes of bettering ourselves and our community.
The members of RKN believe that people speak more truth through their actions, and in committing themselves in those actions, then by their words. We believe that we are also ultimately responsible for our selves.
We also seek the deeper meaning of the lore given to us by the gods and goddesses through study, self-reflection, meditation, and personal relationships with the Gods themselves.
